Excellent, highly recommend The berwyn Arms… what a find. Emailed to book a table and received confirmation. Excepted our dogs and could cater for ceoliac. Food was amazing. Staff were really friendly and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Located on the main roadside it’s easy to find and great value for money. Would recommend to anyone in the area to try it. Wish we were staying nearby longer to experience more food as the menu was fab.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Excellent and attentive service, dog friendly, menu choice is excellent, the views from the terrace are exceptional! Food arrived and was all excellent; took a little time but this is a m positive as the food was hot and fresh - not microwaved! Prices are extremely reasonable when considering the prices and portions, would highly recommend!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

What a great place and people - we loved it. 2 night re-union visit for 3 couples with dinner both nights. The location is a little out of Llangollen and on the A5 and not close to anything else, but the views are absolutely stunning from the rooms at the back. There are 4 rooms and we had booked all 4 but sadly one couple were ill. The rest of us had dinner both nights and the food was excellent. It's high quality pub food, wholesome, tasty and hot. The service was lovely and our host and the younger girl behind the bar were great and really looked after us on both nights. Breakfast was excellent, cooked to order and loads of choices. We loved the bacon and sausages. Easy parking and loads to do and see in the area. Great views across the Dee Valley and river. The only small downside is that there is a bit of road noise from the A5 - but not too bad at night. We would recommend this and thanks to Sarah for making us feel welcome.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Great Food, Beautiful location with pretty views... I stay around this area yearly when visiting Wales and often visit the Berwyn Arms for food when I'm in the area. This is one of my favourite places to eat at of an evening, it's close by to the log cabins I stay at, within walking distance infact. The atmosphere is always chill and quiet and the service is always great. The food tastes lovely each time. Every visit I look forward to seeing what is on the 'special's menu for the day' and it never disappoints. There is also a nice balcony that leads outside from the dining area that has beautiful views of the mountains and river. They are also part of a hotel but I've not stayed here yet, just dined in and had drinks here. Food is well portion sized and is good quality and good value for money.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Visiting Relatives in the Area It is located between Llangollen and Corwen, easy to find with plenty of parking. We stayed Saturday night and met with our family and had drinks and some small plates which we felt was very good value, staff very friendly and attentive, we stayed in Rm2 which was lovely and cosy with beautiful outlook over the River Dee and hills beyond. As it was at the back it was very quiet which was great, the room was spotless with everything you'd want and the Bedding of a good quality perfect for a good night's sleep. We met the owner Sarah who was very friendly and welcoming. And of course the next morning a full Welsh breakfast cooked to order with plenty of tea or coffee. We will be staying here again soon when visiting the area. Would highly recommend as we felt good value for the money .Thank you all .Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Christmas 2025 at The Berwyn Arms My wife and I went for Christmas dinner after spending the holiday near Corwen. I found the booking process to be less than satisfactory due to not receiving a confirmation email. This issue arose from my surname. After confirming the spelling of my surname twice, with two different people on two separate occasions, it still wasn’t recorded correctly, resulting in the lack of a confirmation. On the day of our visit, we were seated immediately and served drinks. Our starters—chicken liver pâté and beetroot falafels—arrived after a pleasant 30-minute wait. The starters were stunning! The portions were fantastic and full of flavour. After another 40-minute wait, our mains—a turkey dinner—arrived, and once again, it was a lovely plate of food. The turkey was incredibly tender, the vegetables were cooked to perfection (al dente), and the portion sizes were, once again, excellent! When it came time for dessert, we experienced no wait at all. We ordered the double chocolate brownie and After Eight cheesecake, which were both satisfactory. The cheesecake was a decent portion size, but overall, both desserts were just okay. We were then asked if they could get us anything else, we paid, and then went on our way. As we were leaving, I noticed that most tables, who had finished their meals, had tea, coffee, and mince pies on their tables. Upon reviewing the menu, I realised we had paid for these but were never specifically offered them. Overall, it was a nice experience, and we thank all the staff working on Christmas Day!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Couldn’t have left happier. We are incredibly fussy at restaurants which has put us off eating out! We booked a table for our last min child free evening after hearing lots of good reviews ( we live locally) we couldn’t have been happier. I had the braised steak pudding which was delicious and my partner has the ba burger which he really enjoyed. The staff are lovely and service was quick. The only downside was I didn’t realise I could bring the dog! He will be joining us with the children next time and there will 100% be a next time.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Keep driving , you’re not missing much Popped in for food on a journey back to Anglesey from Birmingham. Showed to our table by a very pleasant young waitress . Ordered food from a young g man at 6.50pm - lots of other diners ordered and received their food , we waited. The young man approached us to ask if we’d ordered food - we told him yes we ordered from you half an hour ago- he didn’t return to our table instead scuttling off each time he neared our table. I managed to say to him as he went past our table did you find our order- yes and he went very pink as obviously embarrassed. Never once did he apologise for his mistake instead leaving it to the young waitress to sort out his mess. She couldn’t have been any better to be honest she was being run around as the young lad was obviously out of his depth and she was left to pick up the pieces. Apart from him looking very scruffy he was obviously unaccustomed to being caught out ! We eventually got our food - it wasn’t what my husband had ordered from the menu for himself but after an hours wait he was too hungry to point out the error! The food was ok , not worth waiting an hour for . The young waitress apologised many times for our waiting time, never once did the lad say sorry , apologise nothing! Disgraceful behaviour and one I wouldn’t want to repeat in frequenting the establishment again. If the landlord wonders why there profits are down it’s because the waitress has to give away drinks to try and appease for the lads incompetence.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

A Gem in the Dee Valley We visited The Berwyn Arms at the end of June this year, and were very warmly welcomed by the staff and Sarah, the proprietor. Our room was spacious and very nicely furnished and afforded a spectacular view over the Dee valley. All the amenities were there, from the complimentary toiletries to hair dryer and iron. The bed was very comfortable and provided an excellent night's sleep, with good quality linens and fluffy pillows. Breakfast was excellent using good quality local produce. The cold offering - a fruit platter - was amazing. We were so impressed that we went back to the hotel every night of our stay for our evening meal, and were not disappointed. The menu is varied with options to suit everyone, from lighter bites to sandwiches to pub classics and a grill section as well as daily specials. We highly recommend it and will definitely be returning.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

An oasis of calm on the busy A5 I really loved my spacious room at The Berwyn Arms and didn't want to leave! The simple, stylish decor was exactly to my taste, it was very well equipped and practically designed (plenty of wardrobe space, an iron and ironing board, lots of shelves and hooks in the shower room), the bed and chairs were very comfortable and the bay window had a wonderful view of the wooded Dee Valley, with heritage trains passing invisibly but audibly underneath in a cloud of steam. Considering the location on the busy A5, it's otherwise very quiet, although there was a lot of nooise from the busy bar on one of the nights I stayed. The staff are helpful and friendly and were able to fit me in at short notice for an evening meal.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Ok Popped here for Sunday lunch after a recommendation. We both had the beef and was a little disappointed to be honest. It was advertised as 48 day matured beef (or something similar) and when it arrived it looked and tasted like a normal silverside beef. Broccoli didn’t appear to be fresh also possibly warmed back up , it didn’t look or taste fresh. Gravy and potatoes were nice though. Had a berry crumble with custard and for £8 it was quite small but tasty. Overall I would say it wasn’t worth the prices they was charging if I’m honest. Lovely spot though just off the A5 with tables and chairs around the back make for a lively viewPosted on Tripadvisor![]()

Absolutely first class Sunday lunch. This is a combination of traditional pub and a lovely restaurant. Although we didn’t eat in the bar (which you can do) that area really is quaint with the most beautiful floor. We had Sunday lunch yesterday and to be frank it was as good as I have had anywhere. Starter, main course and sweets, were absolutely lovely. We greedy pigs left clean plates although my other half couldn’t eat it all so we were kindly given individual doggy treats to take home for the dog. She wouldn’t let me eat it myself but I would have done! Interesting range of beers. Helpful and cheerful and friendly chatty staff and superb service. The view over the valley is absolutely stunning. I must remember next time to ask for a table by the (very large) windows. I have visited here before in summer and the food and service was just as good then. There is a patio terrace outside in summer although you don’t really want to be sitting outside there in early February. I do know that in summer, the Llangollen steam Railway runs along the valley and you can often see steam from the train progressing through the trees or at least, that’s how it appears. A lovely touch. I just love this place.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Nothing but good things to say What a great find on the A5. We stopped for one night on the way up to Anglesey for the zipwire and wished we had arrived earlier to make the most of the view. The rooms exceeded expectation by some way with a really comfortable bed and probably the best hotel pillows I have slept on (bad pillows are a real pet peeve as they give me a horrible headache). Room 2 has a bay window looking out over the view, plenty of space and a large shower room. We had dinner which was really delicious with a good selection of wines and beers. Followed it off with a nightcap and an excellent nights sleep. Breakfast was lovely and we were sorry to have to head off so early. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We would absolutely return (for longer) when heading to this part of Wales.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Great Accommodation and Lovely Food I was originally booked to visit earlier this year but had to cancel because of illness. I should have lost all my money but Sarah at the hotel very kindly allowed me to re-book at no extra cost so eventually visited with my wife. The hotel room (room 2) was spotlessly clean, well appointed and had a wonderful view across the Dee valley towards the mountains. We ate twice at night in the restaurant. The food was freshly prepared and cooked to perfection. Breakfast likewise was cooked freshly to our order and was enough to keep us going for the days hill walking. The beer garden at the back of the hotel was a wonderful place to relax at the end of the day with beautiful views. Sarah was present throughout our stay and made us feel very welcome and was able to give plenty of advice about the area which was new to us. A lovely stay at an exceptional hotel which I thoroughly recommend.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

A great pub with dining and drinking areas and a beautiful view down the valley. Food is well cooked and generous in portion size with a good selection. The fish and chips were tasty, the batter crispy and the batter lovely and crunchy. I had the gammon streak, again well cooked with both pineapple (well rude not too) and a nicely cooked egg, and my wife had the steak which again was cooked to perfection. Great stay! We stayed at this establishment yesterday for one night, as we were due to attend a wedding locally. We arrived on time for our 2pm check in, hoping to have a quick change, and depart for our function. Unfortunately, none of our rooms were ready on time, which meant we left later than expected, a little disappointing that they weren’t ready on time for us. However, all the staff we came into contact with at check in/out were friendly, polite, and kindly answered any telephone enquiries we had before our arrival. We even found patrons of the pub/restaurant to be exceedingly friendly, which was quite nice when we ordered drinks whilst we waited. The rooms we stayed in were clean and tidy, looked recently refurbished, and as described on the website. Rooms 1,2 & 3, all had en-suite’s, 1 & 2 had lovely woodland/valley views, room 3 at the front faces the main road, and the room rate reflects this. Sadly, we weren’t able to have an evening meal in the restaurant, but staying bed & breakfast meant that we dined in the restaurant extension this morning. The full breakfast provided was plentiful, hot and tasty, served by the owner, who was very pleasant and made sure all our needs were met. We also ventured out onto the outside decking area, which is a great hidden asset to the rear of the pub, benefitting from the beautiful view across the valley. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would have given the highest rating had we not been late for the beginning of the wedding, due to a combination of factors, the room delay being one.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Terribly low quality food, unwelcoming staff, and a greedy owner Terrible experience. Been twice with my father and then my partner, and both said they wouldn't bother ever coming back. I live locally, and it's common knowledge around here that once the new owners took over they shot the prices up while the quality of the food is just absolute garbage. All of the staff are strangely standoffish unless you catch them on a very good day. Prices here are legitimately insane compared to the quality. A small burger and small side of poorly made chips is £16, something you'd expect to pay in a very upmarket restaurant, but this place couldn't be further from that. I highly recommend wondering around Llangollen and giving your service to the restaurants there. You'll get much better food and probably spend less too.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Great lunch Looking for a place for lunch and we found this little gem! We initially planned to stop in Llangollen but it was too busy so moved on further down the A5, and really pleased we did. Sat outside on a pretty terrace and had a lovely lunch, the children enjoyed their food too. Staff super friendly and accommodating. Will definitely go back.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Wonderful place - came across by chance. Stumbled upon this place driving back to our AirBnB after our Snowdon climb. Thought we’d pop in for a drink, then discovered the kitchen was still open - a real result as it turned out. Really welcoming place. All the staff were lovely and the food was amazing. Definitely recommend if you’re anywhere nearby.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Disappointed We were so looking forward to trying this place but were very disappointed. Not dog friendly as described on the website, dogs are only allowed in the garden area and the snug, not in the restaurant. We've never left a bad review before on trip advisor as we go with the full intention of enjoying the experience. The food was awful I didn't eat mine, watery gravy and minimal lamb in the stew, the fish and chips were tasteless obviously frozen. Planned on 4 courses each but left after 1. On the plus side the young waitress was lovely. Sorry to leave this comment but if you want a lovely meal with fresh cooked food don't bother going here.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Could do better Have wanted to try the Berwyn Arms for sometime, and had our chance yesterday. Booked a table for 5pm. Booking was probably not required, as we were the only diner's in the restaurant. Table for 2 in the window, with stunning views. We both chose the Sunday roast. 1 Lamb, 1 Beef. Hubby requested a yorkshire pudding with his lamb, which they kindly provided. So glad they did, as the portions are really meagre. We are 2 oldies who don't have huge appetites but even we could have eaten more than 1 carrot and 1 stem of broccoli. The roast potatoes and the homemade gravy were delicious, as was the whole dinner, but at £18 pp we thought it was overpriced and doubt that we will return. I had seen in a previous review that a customer only got 1 carrot, was sort of hoping after that review the chef would have made a bit more effort on portion size, but unfortunately not. It is probably the reason we were the only diner's there on a pleasant Sunday afternoon.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

6 stars out of 5 if I could award them, this is a must place visit Very rarely do we manage to visit a restaurant where all 4 people agree every course was excellent, this happened here. Presentation was equal to the very top restaurants and the flavours deep, so far most definitely the best meal of the trip. Scorched salmon beautiful and the stuffing on the turkey roulade divine. Service was excellent and attentive. Beautiful scenic surroundings. Team well done all round, just impressed.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

What a gem ! Beautifully refurbished historic old pub right on the A5. Food menu varied , unique, and very tasty. the candied walnuts with cheese platter were original, and the Hake was cooked beautifully. Room was very comfortable, pillows were superb, and decor tasteful. usb on all points - really useful. Very disappointing. If your idea of Sunday lunch is spending £17 on one thin slice of tasteless lamb, one carrot, a couple of roast potatoes and a smear of gravy, then this is the place for you. If you prefer something more substantial, I’d suggest you try elsewhere.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Best Food in North Wales (and beyond) The food at the Berwyn Arms is exceptional. It's the best food in North Wales, I'm sure of it. I've been many times with friends and family and the standards never falter. The service is also so friendly and efficient without any pretension. Excellent Food What can I say what an absolute incredible restaurant in North Wales. From the staff waitering on the tables who were so customer focussed and friendly to the excellent food. The menu choices were delicious and although a little pricey for the area it is well worth the money. The food here would not look out of place in a rosette or Michelin starred restaurant. Fantastic! The cremoux for dessert with passion fruit was a taste sensation! I wished I lived nearer because I would be a frequent visitor. If you are in the area please pay a visit.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Lovely Meal We called in on passing and was able to get a meal very easily. We also had our little dog with us, but the Berwyn Arms advertise as dog friendly so no problems. Just one word of warning, dogs are only allowed in the small snug room, only 4 tables or so, not in the main restaurant area, so may well be worth booking a table if you intend taking your dog to ensure you are not disappointed. Anyway, back to the meals. My wife had a vegetarian option and I had the Sea Bass with noodles, both were delicious and so fresh. The staff were friendly and attentive, and they also serve a lovely pint. All in all, we had a very pleasant experience and will definitely be calling in again.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Stunning food set off by stunning views We had visited The Berwyn Arms before a few years previously and I had hailed the Sunday dinner then as the best I'd tasted. Standards are just as high now. Every element of our three main dishes was superbly cooked, right down to the delicious home made tartar sauce. Service was very friendly and efficient. Emergency Stay My partner fell ill on the A5 back from our weekend away with our dog in Anglesey, after multiple lay-by stops in 36 degree heat, he couldn’t drive anymore. We pulled into the Berwyn Arms and I went in, explained what was happening asking if we could book a room for a few hours so he can rest in the cool until he hopefully felt better, Rachel very kindly made up a room for us even though they weren’t even open! All afternoon Rachel and Sarah gave us fresh cool water and extra milk to keep my tea addiction under control, they were all so accommodating to us even though it was completely out of the norm. We stayed the night as it was much safer than attempting to drive the 50 miles back home. Despite it all I enjoyed the stay, the room was extremely comfortable, clean, well presented and with stunning surroundings. Thank you so much Sarah, Rachel and the team at Berwyn Arms we look forward to a **preplanned** visit soon where we can take advantage of all the great things you have to offer! 😊 Emma, Ben & Ellie 🐾Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Great Food, Perfect Hospitality. Great Food, served just as you would wish it. Attentiveness at a table can be disconcerting - and all too easy to get wrong. Here it was 'Just Right'. Not pushy, not constantly asking "How's your meal". Not total ignorance and gossiping in a corner. The food was equally excellent. You don't need a whole heap of food to be satisfied - its a meal not a marathon. Beautiful food, beautifully presented. We pass here frequently, perhaps I should have kept this a secret. It's a cool pub in a cool place with an excellent menu. PLEASE PLEASE don't change - we want to visit you again and again.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Top Marks Having visited the Berwyn Arms at least 5 times now, it never fails to disappoint. During the summer months we were able to sit and eat outside and take in the vast surroundings overlooking the stunning lush valley. The interior is nicely decorated and clean and it has different rooms to dine in. Food is always good, tasty and well presented. I always think the smaller the menu the better the food is. I dislike a huge fussy menu as 1 its hard to choose and 2nd its mostly frozen. The portions served are ample sized as you can then fit in a desert if you so wish, but mostly I can’t fit in a desert. Manager/Owner/Staff are always pleasant and pleased to serve you and answer any questions you may have on the food and drinks menu. On the occasions I have not booked a table staff have been most accommodating. Recently I have taken friends and family for a meal here and they too have been impressed by the food and surroundings.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Back again...can't stay away! Another fabulous meal. This was our fourth visit since it reopened under a new team earlier this year and it never fails to exceed expectations. The homemade garlic bread is something we crave between visits so we always start with this. We then opted for a selection of appetisers to share for our starter, halloumi fries, Black pudding spring rolls, bhaji bites, chicken wings, all delicious with accompanying dips. Two of us then had the ox cheek, wow, what a flavour on the glaze, and one had the suet pudding. Both were delicious and all the accompaniments were full of flavour. Deserts were also a triumph. The chefs here really know what they're doing and the front of house staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Can't wait for the next visit to sample their Christmas menu.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Lovely food but I won't be visiting again. We came for lunch on a Saturday in July and it was all almost empty and having seen the menu, I can understand why. We had a meal booked in the evening and wanted a light lunch. The menu didn't accommodate for this in any way. We ended up ordering starters for £7 each, mushroom soup and a roll, one slice of welsh rarebit and a portion of chips. The food was outstanding but the bill with two drinks came to nearly £25. The portions were definitely starter sized and I resent paying this for soup and cheese on toast, no matter how nice. It's a shame that this pub is missing an opportunity, they obviously have a good chef but the business model is flawed. An out of town pub needs to capitalise on its lunch time trade and cater better for lunchtime eating patterns. Staff also need to be more flexible in their roles to improve the customer service experience.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Our choices were 4 of the snacks which were Halloumi chips, chicken wings, bahji chips and tear and share garlic bread with balsamic vinegar and olive oil and a couple of coffees. Good food and value for money. Stopped here for Sunday lunch after being left waiting for 10 minutes and walking out of a hotel in Bala (See my earlier review) Friendly and helpful staff. I had the homemade steak and kidney pie with chips and veg. Lovely lean chunks of steak and equally large bits of kidney in a nice crusty shortcrust pastry. Chips excellent and veg done perfectly. My partner had the 3 meat roast dinner and was equally impressed, only complaint being the roast potatoes were perhaps slightly overdone. Staff very helpful especially as my partner asked for horseradish, apple sauce and stuffing for each of the meats at separate times! We thoroughly enjoyed both meals and would not hesitate to recommend.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

We sat down for food after ordering we were told chilli wasn’t available by the chef who came out into the restaurant so had lasagne which we had to leave as it was dry and questionably old. Not all our order came out and the bar staff reacted by saying ‘well do you want your money back or what?’ Toilets were disgusting and there were flies around the bar. The views from the garden at the back are also excellent.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Poor hygiene and presentation but food was adequate No soap in bathroom and toilet roll left uncovered lying on the dusty shelf next to the toilet. When I quietly notified the staff I was told that the roll of toilet paper doesn’t fit in the dispenser. I explained (not that I should have to) that this is how women tract UTI’s and they didn’t seem fussed. Hopefully these issues have been fixed now. The staff were dressed in tacky legging with holes which isn’t exactly who you want serving your food. Could do with a bit more effort put in on that part. The food on the other hand was reasonably priced and a solid 6/10 and the staff were helpful when catering for a big group of us. The menu had a nice broad range and came with all the fixings.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Absolute joke I cannot believe the favourable reviews for this disgrace of an inn. Place was empty on arrival but told to take a table and presented with a menu to be told that ham, beef and pork (except belly pork) were all off the menu which did not leave much. However, we pressed on and ordered soup and the belly pork. The soup duly turned up cold and was sent back. Came back reheated (fair enough). The belly pork eventually came out covered in a "gravy" and "chopped potatoes" as mash was off! The vegetables turned up after I had eaten the pork. Girl behind the bar was apologetic and offered a free drink which was declined as I did not want to stay a minute longer than necessary. Good luck if you want to eat here.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

good pub Sunday lunch Was running out of time for a Sunday lunch after sightseeing locally, and came across this pub just out of Corwen town .Enquired if we were too late and were told to take a table order a beer and they would fit us in which they did.The pub/restaurant is quite old and has a few knocks and dents and a kiddys play area next door but had the feel of a real locals place, also great views of the surrounding hills. The roast was fine and on hot plates !! and the place had a general all round good local pub feeling ..not 5 star but neither were the pricesPosted on Tripadvisor![]()

FANTASTIC Sunday Night Brit Stop Husband and I stayed over Sunday night on our way to Betws-y-coed. Rang ahead to check we'd be OK, stopping over in 7m motorhome. Very friendly phonecall, including local weather updates and details of when food and drink are served. (food until 7pm on Sunday evening) Arrived for 6.50pm, very warm welcome and quick decision on food, but the chef was very accommodating and the meals received were lovely (belly pork and roast beef) fresh veggies too, which was great considering they were 10 mins from closing the kitchen. Wonderful pint of local real ale, and a very yummy Welsh marmalade gin to finish!! The fantastic hosting then continued when they offered to cook us breakfast in the morning! An offer we couldn't refuse, and were so grateful for, considering the pub was supposed to be closed until 4pm. (I don't think this is normally the case, they advertise as being open from 12pm) Overall, excellent food, very accommodating staff, and a fantastic example for our first ever Brit Stop, we will definitely be back :-)Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Sunday lunch Booked in advance on line as we didn't know if dogs were accepted. Pub responded very promptly and reserved a table for us and our 3 dogs. The lovely lady serving at the bar, not sure if she is the landlady, gave us a different table on arrival, giving us far more room which was very kind. We were intent to have the Sunday lunch, I was nearly tempted to order off the specials board or menu that had several dishes on there that spoilt me for choice.Glad I stuck with the roast. We both ordered the large options. I liked especially that you could choose medium, large or mixed meat selections. The food itself was lovely. All piping hot, and a large portion of meat, just as it said! I saw the chef walk past and asked if the beef was Welsh Black beef it was that nice. We were too full to have pudding from the board which were home made. The young waitress who served us was lovely and very polite. This was our first visit and we are sure to be regulars here next holiday season. Tremendous!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Disappointing meal In a lovely setting! Called in for a Sunday lunch. Had a nice pint of Stella and a tasty cup of coffee and chose a beef roast and a beef / turkey and lamb roast from the neat looking Specials Board. All very reasonably priced and the restaurant has lovely views across the Dee Valley When the meal arrived there was a large soggy Yorkshire Pudding on top of the meat with some mashed spuds, hard peas and gravy. Mashed carrots, cauliflower and cabbage appeared in a dish a little later which were fine as were the 2 roast potatoes that came with the main meal! The lamb and turkey was ok, but the beef was badly carved and tough and everything had the microwave feel about it! We were disappointed as we expected the meats to be roasted in an oven on the day and not microwaved! We had 2 sweets following the meal which were fine. The waitress was very pleasant as was the bar lady. With a little more care, thought and pride from the chef it could have been a delicious meal in a glorious setting!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Shambles of a pub. Well where do I start...We first went in on Saturday night and we ordered the sirloin steak dinner and the fish and chips, clearly stated to the rude bar man that we wanted the steak plain with just chips, without veg, tomatoes and salad we also told the waitress the exact same thing when she came over with our cutlery. So the food came and ... it was WRONG. Everything I stated I didn't want, I got... and to top that off the steak itself was a rump, not sirloin which I ordered. We stayed for a few drinks after that and to be honest I wish we didn't, the locals were rude and disrespectful, we seen one local going for a wee behind the pub at the back, the two girl waitresses were very rude and snotty also, as the night got on we seen ourselves get surrounded by underage kids in the pub bar and outside smoking in the door way! On the Sunday night we went again for the Roast dinner as we had been once before on a Sunday for their dinner a few months ago, well this time what a unpleasant surprise we got (again) we ordered LARGE roast beef and LARGE Turkey & stuffing. After ordering we went and sat down, by chance we sat by the door by the kitchen, as we waited the woman waitress was running up and down laughing and telling everyone that the chiefs were playing a "little game" so that was strange. We heard the 'chiefs' more like school kids on work experience shout " MICROWAVE " and within 5 minutes it arrived. Straight away it looked like it had been in the microwave, the gravy was all glued to the plate, there was no stuffing with the Turkey & STUFFING, we had 4 roast potatoes BETWEEN us,the Yorkshire pudding on the beef was soggy and under cooked, the Turkey dinner looked like a big mush on a plate. On both dinners we got a SPOON full of dried up mash,on the turkey dinner we asked for all the veg... one carrot and a tiny bit of carrot skin floating in the gravey was their impression of ALL the veg, no peas just a hand full of cabbagee in a separate bowl. The beef was scraps and very fatty, also on the beef dinner was TURKEY floating in the gravy. Absolutely vile, absolute shambles! The next day surprise surprise we had FOOD POISON. We also got told that the landlord is trying to sell up, just speechless really. Change Needed Stopped here for lunch on the way to Holyhead as it appeared to be a nice location. I opted for the homemade steak and kidney pie my friend went to the hot pot and my other half had the fish and chips . The homemade steak and kidney pie was just kidney the pastry was hard and burnt maybe reheated in the microwave anyway dissappointing. The fish and chips were fresh and the hot pot was a bowl of reheated stew served with cabbage not great according to my friend. Not a place I will be going to again soon.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Great Do not let the outside white paint that is soiled put you off a stop. The interior is very clean and tastefully done to reflect an earlier time. Restaurant seats overlook the valley below. Gone down hill over the past couple of years I work in the area and decided to call over today with the family and take them for lunch here. The staff were pleasant and I was served quickly at the bar but that was the only quick service we received. When we ordered we were one of two families in and it took 55 minutes for the food to arrive. When it did arrive the kids chicken nuggets were burnt and the chicken burgers came on a plain brown bun rather than a seeded bun as advertised. The condition of the restaurant has deteriorated since we last visited 12 months ago as has the quality of the food. When we were leaving we saw inside the kitchen and it looked filthy from the doorway... had we seen this on the way in we wouldn’t have eaten there!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

A good meal. Stopped here on way home from Llanberis. Large car park. Conveniently located on the main road. The room was £70 for a double. Quite comfy but not luxury or modern. The tv remote didn't work. The bathroom floor was sticky. The host seemed very pleasant. Food was good . Very large portions. A fine and hearty English Breakfast was served and all in all £70 was decent value if they could just make the room a little more welcoming. A wifi code in the room would be a start. Instructions for the tv and a working remote. On the positive side it has great views out the back.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

A Delicious Dinner at The Berwyn Arms On our way to Trefriw we popped in as it was late and we were hungry after a long journey. It's an old pub goes back to the 14th century with lots of charm, the fireplace and some very old pieces of furniture give a special atmosphere. The menu is pub grub with local specialities and prices are ok.(there are vegetarian option as well) We chose pork belly and chicken madras. Delicious! We were served quickly and staff were kind. A quiet room where the family can sleep and in the morning see the steam train pass through below down in the valley. Great food, hearty, properly cooked. My son loves the indoor play area. If you have small children and like a beer...this is heaven This is the most amazing place I've taken my wife and small child. An historic building steeped in history, run as a warm friendly local pub with guest rooms and just a little bit of magic...an amazing children's play area and dining area away from the main bar...so if you're a caring parent you know your little ones are excitable, you can have a meal, watch them play and be safe in the knowledge they're not disturbing people after a quiet pint. Dinner was amazing, I didn't fancy chips with lasagne so took up the suggestion of onion rings and salad...what an awesome idea. The rooms above the pub are well just that rooms above a pub...ideal if you want to eat, drink and not drive/cab about. The rooms are clean and basic and the beds are delightfully comfortable (we got an extra bed for the little one). Breakfast is something else looking out across breathtaking scenery of rolling welsh hills is enough to work up an appetite with no exercise ha ha! The staff were all AMAZING, the owner clearly knows how a pub should be run and deserves an award for themselves and their staff.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Brilliant Xmas Meal! This was our first visit to Berwyn Arms after having heard so many good reports about it. We went for a midweek staff Xmas lunch. Priced at £20 we weren't expecting too much but how wrong we were. 5 course meal including appetizers and very generous portions. I'm a big eater but even I struggled by the time dessert was reached. All the food was excellently cooked and presented and the service was fantastic. We weren't kept hanging around between courses but at the same time we never felt that someone was watching over our shoulders waiting to clear the plates away. We were even offered the option after the main course was cleared to delay dessert if we wished. All the food looked and tasted freshly cooked and not once felt that it was anything but homemade. The staff couldn't do enough to help us. We will definitely be making this a regular place to visit.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Good Hearty Food My wife and I called in for Sunday Lunch having seen the positive reviews on Trip Advisor. We have to say, the positive views we read were well founded. I normally go for the traditional Sunday lunch but thought I would have a change and had the home made Steak Pie, my wife had Belly Pork with Black Pudding Mash. We have to say, both meals were delicious, and plenty of it. The staff were very friendly and found us a lovely table next to a window overlooking the beautiful Dee Valley. So a great meal, great views and a nice drop of ale to wash it down with. Needless to say, we were two very contented customers. As we have recently purchased a static home in nearby Llanderfel, we will certainly be visiting again in the future.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

We were in North Wales for a week and sad that we did not get back there again. It has lovely open garden seating area, dogs allowed too, thankfully it was boiling even though it was october, so we stat in the beer garden admiring the view across the valley. Date night meal My husband took me to this place foe a date night meal, I had passed it many times but never gone in, we arrived to a friendly atmosphere, for which I was grateful. We went through to the restaurant area, given a menu which did have rather a lot of spelling mistakes which I thought a bit odd. We placed our order which was a mixed grill for the other half and mine was a beef burger with fried onions, served in a bun with chips and a garnish, 45 minutes after we ordered it arrived, no fried onions, bun I could have taken home and knocked nails in a wall with, the burger was burnt in places and my mouth started to gat very hot, I then knew it must have chilli in or peppers, the burnt bits I looked at and there they were tiny red flecks, we told the waiter about it and to ask if was chilli as I have unpleasant effects from, he did come back and told us it was in fact peppers, this was not mentioned on the menu as a beef and pepper burger at all, we were offered desserts free but we declined as I wanted to get home as my mouth was on fire, I will not be going back, sorry to say as I have said they were very friendly.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Unbelievable! Congratulations are definitely due to the Berwyn Arms, the worst place I've ever been! After a great day out we decided to pull in for something to eat, it was getting on for 7pm and I didn't want my nephew eating too late before bed. Pub grub overlooking the gorgeous Dee Valley, what a great way to round off a day out! Ignoring the many spelling mistakes on the menu we chose our meals and placed our order at the bar paying on order. Such a smart practice, otherwise we'd have walked out, and judging by the other diners we wouldn't have been the only ones. We waited, I took my nephew outside to enjoy the view, and what a view it is! The Berwyn Arms occupies an idyllic space and apart from the odd car we only heard the sheep baaing in the fields. And still we waited. It must be good, we thought, each dish cooked fresh if it's taking so long. Finally an hour after we ordered our food arrived. No wonder the waitress retreated quickly, she must be so embarrassed at serving such awful food. My roast beef sandwich was made from Sunday's roast, two mushrooms and microwaved cheese. The shop bought coleslaw was a life saver as it helped disguise the taste. The chips were from a packet and the fresh salad garnish was chopped iceberg lettuce. Mum's chicken breast burger was a shop bought chicken scrap burger Icelands would deny, with a handful of iceberg lettuce and a slight introduction to mayo, packet chips again and another half a head of iceberg lettuce masquerading as a salad. My 7 year old nephew's spaghetti bolognese was gone after three mouthfuls, I've made him some toast before bed. We ate it, it was after 8pm, we were hungry, and we'd already paid, but it wasn't a dining experience it was a simple refuelling exercise. The two ladies beside us were equally unimpressed with their meal, making the same faces and taking photos too. I was astonished to read the high praise on here for the place, have they changed staff in the last few days? Or do the normal team take Thursdays off and let the YTP kids have a go? Either way, I wish I'd gone to Maccy D's.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

The food arrive promptly and was well cooked. Others in our party had steak and kidney pie and cheese and potato pie. All the servings were very large, Theres a lovely view from the back of the pub accross the Dee Valley. The only negative was some confusion over dessert availabilty...they'd run out of many items but were still taking orders. But its a minor issue.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Great roast, good pud, bad waiting times It's started all so well. The Berwyn Arms is cosy though a bit shabby. After a weekend camping we just wanted comfort food on our way home. The roast didn't disappoint and appeared in good time. The veg was somewhat pale and overcooked and there was an excess of mash and a lack of parsnips and roasties (one parsnips, two roasties) but the meat was tasty and tender and the gravy was 'proper' and plentiful. The Yorkshires were good too. Unfortunately it all went a bit down hill when we decided to try the homemade dessert, sticky toffee pudding for him and Rhubarb crumble for me and the (small- 3&6) children. After waiting half an hour we were told they had no crumble. I though we should just leave but he wanted his pudding. So then we waited a further almost half hour for our second choice puddings. When they were finally delivered we then had to wait for the custard and spare plates as the boys were sharing. All very frustrating. The staff were apologetic and nice but explained they had problems with the microwave which didn't really explain the lack of communication. Over two hours later we were on our way, full and very tired with the bill paid in full. Overall I have given a high score as the gravy was good and an extra boat provided.... which with this family of gravy lovers goes a long way.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Good Value For Money. We stayed here last year after our camper van broke down in Cambridge on the way to a family event in Glyndyfrdwy the night before. We had to limp it home and travel to Wales the next day by car. Arriving at lunchtime on a Saturday in June we had to find a dog friendly hotel for the night and one hotel receptionist in Llangollen telephoned around on our behalf and came across the Berwyn Arms who accommodated us. Owning to our unfortunate circumstances we were just happy to find any where that would have us and our dogs for the night. Much to our surprise the room was very spacious, clean with ensuite toilet and shower and the beds were so comfortable that when speaking to the owner she informed us that they went to great lengths to get the rooms in keeping with the character of the building. The beds and furniture were imported from Italy. A good full English breakfast greets you the next morning and evening meals are available in their restaurant which over looks the scenic views of the valley. There is ample parking and although this is a pub with bed and breakfast it was not noticeably noisy during our stay. It so impressed us as to what great value we thought our stay was last year and how dog friendly the owners are that we went again this July. This time we enjoyed an evening meal and the quality of food did not disappoint either. We were giving a room at the back which offers the best views in our opinion so if ever you want to stay here ask if a back room is available. Its so nice to wake up in the morning and admire the view. We are off to Blackpool in September and will make a detour and stay another night here on the way up to break up our journey and I'm looking forward to it.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Good service and food Called in on the way to Port Meirion for a break and sandwich, Staff very pleasant, nice old fashioned pub, just as pubs used to be:dates back to the 14th century. Enjoyed wonderful views from a very comfortable dining room. I had a beef sandwich and my wife had ham. It wasn't just a sandwich, it was a MEAL It was so good that instead of choosing a different route home we decided to visit again for a meal.I had belly of pork. Never seen or tasted anything like it anywhere. We had to wait quite a while, but then you cannot fast cook belly. It was the sweetest., tenderest pork I have ever tasted. My wife chose cod. It appeared to be the size of a whale steak. Super batter, not too thick, crispy and tasty and accompanied by real freshly cooked chips. One of the deciding factors in returning was to enjoy the apple pie on offer. I cannot remember the last time I was served home made apple pie made fresh apples and not pie filling;Restaurant pies are usually bought in using apple puree filling and then micowaved, Yuk.However my dinner was so plentiful I couldn't finish it. I was not going to miss the apple pie so I asked for it to be boxed for me to take home. I have to say it gave equal pleasure along side the prk belly. I rarely eat out because, well "standards are not always up to standard", Try The Berwyn Arms and you will not be disappointedPosted on Tripadvisor![]()

The best B&B I've stayed in Wales Just got back from spending 3 nights with 3 mates on a fly fishing trip where we used The Berwyn Arms as a base. In all respects this place is excellent, but three things stand out for me. Firstly the accommodation which, for the price, was clean, tidy, well equipped and spacious (rooms 1 and 2 have beautiful views across the Dee valley). Secondly the food was really good honest pub grub, but home cooked and very tasty (the portions are very big too). Lastly, and possibly most importantly, the customer service was absolutely outstanding. The friendly and outgoing staff simply couldn't do enough for us. Over many years we've stayed in many pubs and hotels on many fishing trips to Wales. But in these days of increasingly bland accommodation, even more bland food and indifferent customer service, the Berwyn Arms stands out as being very different, and a bit special. And of course we'll be going back!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Evening Meal Very warm welcome. Traditional home cooked food. The food was cooked to order and delicious- even the chips were home made. Will definitely return if staying in the area. Although the restaurant has a no dogs policy we were advised that we could have taken them into the bar and eaten there. Highly recommended.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

What's happened Having eaten here many times we popped for our tea tonight. Truly disgusting food. We basically got two plates of food soaked thoroughly in oil. The only good thing was the glass of water. No one even asked us if everything was ok and the lady who took our payment was more interested in chatting to people at the bar. Won't be returning here again waste of £30 tonightPosted on Tripadvisor![]()

The hair... We were staying local and relished the idea of a good pub and restaurant to walk to. Popped in Christmas Eve Eve and the barmaid was very welcoming. The specials board promised of great things, so we booked a table for the following night. What a disappointment. We were the only diners all evening. We were neglected by the staff - they were enjoying themselves in the public bar, with the locals - and the food was just wrong... We had lasagna and beef stroganoff. The lasagna had been left warming to long and had both dried hard and gone mushy at the same time - microwave dinner... The chips were limp and overdone - again, reheated and been alive to long. The beef had some really tough bits in it and again, suffered from the microwave. Disappointed but being British, we soldiered on in to the dessert. Bread and butter pudding with walnuts?!! The chocolate cake was actually rather good (albeit hard edges from the microwave reheating) but the worst was to come... A hair in my chocolate sauce... I'm not normally so delicate but after the poor fare we had had, this was one error to far. I could not finish it and nor could I keep quiet. Would the chef be told in the morning? I don't know... Plus side? The beer. The Sunbeam beer really was very nice but this alone is not enough for us to return.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Meal with a view It must be 20 or so years since I visited here before calling recently on spec one Saturday lunchtime. Not busy, in fact we were the only two diners and a couple of locals in the local bar, for local people ! Sat overlooking the valley - really nice even on a winter's day (the Llangollen railway line runs just below the pub). Ordered a scampi and chips, and lamb chops. All nicely presented and hot - very good pub meal and (apparently, as not my meal) the chops were delicious. We might try again after Christmas and see what the Sunday lunch is like but enjoyed the bar meal and view!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Sunday lunch Spotted on the A5 west of Llangollen, parking available so pulled in., pleasantly surprised. Very nicely appointed hostelry, service and ambience good, food quality excellent, a very satisfying meal, generous portions, pudding not required, (no room for one) Price wise, very reasjonable. Definitely one to be enjoyed again.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Pleasant surprise Been meaning to review this place for some time but only now got round to it. Having failed to find somewhere to eat in Betws-y-Coed (everywhere full) and an accident meaning a very roundabout detour my wife and I were slightly despairing about finding a place to eat before arriving at our overnight B&B which we knew didn't do evening meals. Passed the Berwyn Arms, quick u-turn and easy parking. We weren't hopeful about having a culinary experience, especially as my wife is a very fussy vegetarian. We were then very pleasantly surprised to find the menu offered multiple veggie choices, as well as plenty of home cooked options. I had a pie which was one of the best I have ever had, and my wife declared her meal equally delicious. Yes, service can be a bit on the slow side, but the food is worth waiting for.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Disappointed Stopped off here on the way home from a great weekend in Llandudno looking for a midway break, ordered drinks and food, nothing extravagant, 4 baguettes and 1 sandwich, over an hour later food still hadn't arrived, there was only one other table occupied in the restaurant so we couldn't see the delay, could have been so much better hence only an average, food was great when it finally arrivedPosted on Tripadvisor![]()

Amazing! The Sunday lunches here are brilliant. Today we had the three meat choice. Lamb, beef and turkey, served with stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, peas and lashings of gravy and we got a platter of veg to share between us two. Consisting of cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli and carrots. The food is beautifully cooked. The staff are really friendly, particularly Karen who took our order. We will be back many times in the future.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Traditional Country Pub We visited this traditional pub for Sunday lunch. The barmaid was friendly and helpful. My Hubby had roast beef, yorkshire pud, roast potato, mashed potato, peas and gravy. I had roast turkey, stuffing, roast potato, mashed potato, peas and gravy. We shared a platter of veg (carrots/cabbage/cauliflower/brocolli). Hubby then had sticky toffee pud and custard and I had caramel apple pie and custard. He also had 2 cups of tea and I had 2 glasses of red wine. The bill came to just under £38 which we thought was reasonable. There is a large beer garden at the side with a lovely view of the valley. There is an easy accessible car park right off the main A5.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Massive portions of delicious food! Decided to have our anniversary meal at the Berwyn Arms having read some reviews. Chose Moroccan Chicken from the specials board and the Mixed Grill from the daily menu. Wasn't the fastest service even though the restaurant was pretty much empty but when the food arrived it was well worth the wait. The portions were enormous!! I really love a mixed grill and when it arrived we both started laughing. I didn't know whether to eat it or climb it!! (see picture) It was perfectly cooked to my liking and very tasty. my partners Moroccan dish was just as plentiful and the chicken literally fell apart and was perfect with the fluffy rice and side salad. My partner opted for apple and blackberry pie with custard for pudding which was homemade and the fruit was picked from the pubs own orchard that day!! Can honestly say it was fantastic food and extremely good value for money. The pub is situated on the Dee valley and the views are fabulous too. Highly recommended in every way and is also dog and biker friendly to boot. If you're in the area or passing, a visit to the Berwyn Arms is a must!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Dissapointed Looked forward to Sunday lunch the "roast" was absolutely beautiful well cooked fresh veg and more than enough portions I am sorry the visit was let down by the desserts. My husband ordered apple crumble it was served in a red hot plate and basically was stewed apple covered in tinned custard which was stone cold where was the crumble? A quick microwave job I ordered a bread and butter pudding as I remember it buttered bread currents/sultanas and custard not brioche and sliced bananas to which I have a severe reactions a real twist and sadly again served with cold custard. We informed the lovely young waitress who genuinely was very apologetic and send she would inform the kitchen we waited and waited no response we gave up and went to pay the bill at the bar The very nice bar lady apologised and send she would go and talk to landlady returned to say there was no charge for the puds which we thought was very fair thank you for that but what would have been really pleasent if either the chef or landlady could have just popped out with some sort of explanation.Fortunately the situation was only saved by the excellent manner both the waitress and bar lady handled the matterPosted on Tripadvisor![]()

Spontaneous visit for tea. Highly recommend We visited here on the early May bank holiday whilst driving back from Wrexham. We aren't from the area so just took our chances with this one. On arrival the pub and resteraunt looks dated and run down however do not judge based on this! There is a play area suitable for children 1year up and it is clean and easily accessible/in sight from your dining tables so there's no up and down to check on the children. The food was all home cooked real pub food, between us we had a roast, lasagna, turkey pie & chilli and all where delicious and gigantic portions. Also... Real chips!!! Our bill for 4 adults 2 courses and one child with 4 drinks was £74 which I think is fantastic. The children's meals where good value and also of a good size. We even got a pint of lager for £2.80! Bargain! If we ever happen to be in the area again we will most certainly return, and could only suggest that just a lick of paint around the place and on the furniture would make it look more appealing.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Gastro pub? Not sure. We used to visit this pub for years when it catered for the passing hikers, climbers and walkers on the way up the A5 to Snowdonia. It was a bit 'spit and sawdust' but the food arrived fast was filling and relatively cheap. The place closed for several years but has now reopened (some years ago I believe) The current set up is more of a restaurant than a pub with food but doesn't quite make it (or at least didn't, on our visit). It took 45 - 50 minutes for the food to arrive so the service was not very good. (lamb chops and a gammon steak) and the place was relatively empty when we arrived. Chops and the gammon was OK (gammon a bit dry). The gravy for the chops was vert tasty. Asked for no mushrooms with the gammon but it arrived with mushrooms anyway (OK, easy to remove but it could have been a mushroom sauce which means I would have rejected the plate entirely). The chips were soggy (second fry?) The home made Kirsch Cherry Cheesecake was nice (although the presentation wasn't great) but I couldn't taste any brandy at all. All in all I'd give it 6/10 but I wouldn't rush to go back as we need good filling food but FAST as I'd prefer to put the tent up before it gets dark.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Superb !! We were staying across the road in a holiday cottage so went across to the pub on our 1st night. We were made to feel so welcome sometimes in local pubs when you walk in it all goes quiet and everyone looks at you ! In The Berwyn Arms it felt like we had been going in there for years the staff so helpful they couldn't do enough for us. The food was excellent we ate in here for 3 nights (our whole stay) the mixed grill is awesome! A member of our family had the T-Bone for 3 nights running even as a Sunday dinner. The children were made to feel very welcome they were allowed to use the pool table ( under supervision) and the owners were just as nice as the staff. It's been a long time since I've walked into a pub/restaurant and been made to feel as welcome as we they did in here the food was excellent a must visit for anyone! I must thank the owners the staff for putting up with us but you all made a big difference to our mini holiday you all helped to make it really special THANK YOU 😘Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Our temporary local Well we were in the neighbourhood for a couple of weeks so we thought we'd try the village local. The pub itself is in a great location with views over the Dee valley, the staff were welcoming and very friendly. Only one real ale on the bar which I had no complaints about which I drank on their patio outside, a lot more could be done here to make more of the location? We tried some fare from the menu and whereas some of the food like the celeriac soup was excellent, the mixed grill was just about okay, no onion rings!? The desserts were too expensive in relation to the portions, we did return for a second meal and once again some aspects of the meal were excellent like the lamb & the red cabbage but let down with desserts again. I did have a steak but didn't get a steak knife? Overall a nice pub that we would visit again if in the area.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Good for Children, a welcome stop for lunch We stopped for lunch on our journey to Anglesey & we were only wanting food & somewhere that welcomed children but were amazed to find a soft play area in it! There is a restaurant overlooking the hills that is lovely, a terrace outside to sit in the sun, a pool or snooker room and an inside bar area. To get to the soft play area you have to walk out of the restaurant and past the kitchen which is a little disconcerting but the play area is equipped with 3 toilets, tables and a small soft play bit. We were the only ones in there but I'd imagine if it gets full it would be a squeeze. There's also a contained padded area for babies only. There is a childrens menu, very much of the 'x with chips variety' but most are & my son enjoyed his golden whale and was very pleased someone in the kitchen had taken the time to put a pea in for the whale's eye! We chose from the specials board and the food was lovely, the staff cheerful and welcoming and we would return. We would probably plan a stop here deliberately if we did the journey again.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

The waitress showed us to another room where we could have a better view over the valley which was absolutely stunning. We enjoyed the spectacular location and also the furnishings were exquisite. We couldnt help but admire the decor and some very unusual pieces of furniture from the 18c while we waited for our food which was served in a reasonable time. Poor service and meagre portions Although the pub itself is a beautiful old building and overlooking great views it was let down by poor service and disapointing portions ,took friends who were visiting the area for the first time for the Sunday lunch paid extra for the bigger portion for the men and the medium size for the ladies. Got to say for the price difference there was just an extra potato and bigger plate along with these we were given a small side dish of veg, how these were to be shared between 4 i don't know perhaps they thought one of us was Jesus and could perform a miracle with em ? When my wife requested mint sauce we had to wait a further five minutes before it arrived never mind we got a faster service from the local takeaway after we got home usually we would have complained but did not want our guests to feel uncomfortable so in contrast stop for drink and the kids can use the play area and the bouncy castle but food i'd really recommend you give it a missPosted on Tripadvisor![]()

Good food Stopped over for a meal at the Berwyn Arms on our cold and wet drive home. We chose to eat in the cosy bar rather than the restaurant area and were welcomed by a few locals and the bar staff. Our choices from the menu and daily specials board did not disappoint, staring with spicy chicken wings and a "piping hot" red pepper soup followed by lamb chops and chilli con-carne. It was refreshing to have the food served on hot plates and dishes as too many places fail to do that nowadays. A log fire was lit as we dined and along with our meal, warmed us up for the rest of our travels. The decor is old but so is the pub but the atmosphere and welcome were warm and obviously appreciated by the many "locals" who came in to eat and drink and chat. It isn't the kind of pub we would seek out but we wold call again if passing on the A5 on future travels.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Nice Pub, Great Location shame about the food First time visit to this pub and we sampled the Sunday Lunch. Sadly very poor, 3 of the 4 diners were dissatisfied with the meal. Which incidentally was the lamb Sunday lunch. All 3 meals were left with a sizeable amount of of fat on the plate. I would question if this was a lamb joint as it had the appearance of one of those Bernard Matthews rolled meats products. Kind of circular slices with seams of fat/gristle running through it. In short, fatty and poor quality. Vegetables were so-so and a small side dish of seasonal vegetables for 4 diners, which I thought was a tad miserly. The waitress inquired if we enjoyed the meal and was polite and respectful of our feedback I'd be tempted to return if they add a better range of beers and was convinced this was just an off day.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Great views, great prices but food average We've eaten here a number of times and some meals have bee great and some are below par. The pub and restaurant is great, has fantastic views over the Berwyn's and is well worth the short drive up from Corwen. The restaurant is always clean and the staff always friendly. I think more effort could be made to stock some local beers and ciders, when there are so many excellent breweries in North Wales. I have no idea if they are tied to a brewery, maybe this limits the choice they can provide... We had the mushroom soup to start last week, all home made and fresh but didn't taste of anything so was a bit disappointed. I then had the steak pie which was really nice, and my partner had a beef stroganoff. The strognaoff seemed to have been made from leftover Sunday roast beef, so the texture was a bit wrong for the dish and sadly lacked any flavour. Still a great place to stop and eat and the prices are very reasonable, just the food is a bit hit and miss on a week-night.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

So friendly and helpful and lovely food My family and I had lunch here on Thursday 26th March, We where staying at locally and decided to try the Berwyn arms for lunch as it looked like a child friendly place, and I was right the staff were so helpful gettina high chair for us and offering to give my little boy a smaller portion of soup (he is only 1). They even came over and asked if the soup would be ok as it had red pepper in it (how thoughtful). Zac loved the soup :) . We all had roast dinner and it was great. I dont often do review of pubs but having driven past it before when it was closed several years ago they deserve a good review. Our pubs and resturants down here in Devon could learn a thing or too about friendliness. We shall be back when we come back up that way on holiday. Well DonePosted on Tripadvisor![]()

Warm welcome and excellent Sunday lunch We had a very warm welcome at the Berwyn Arms, both from the real fire and friendly staff. Our Sunday lunch was really good quality, the meat was plentiful and cooked well, as was the veg. We sat on a table overlooking the views of the river which was lovely. The Berwyn Arms is openly a family restaurant and is great for families with young children and has lots of different rooms. They also do different plate sizes which is a great idea. We are a couple who have managed to get our children to an age where they have slung their hooks so we are not massively keen on listening to others'little darlings. So for us, we would have liked one of the rooms to be for grumpy grown ups only. However, we will be calling again and have asked about b&b - which happily they do at a very reasonable rate.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Card Policy and Poor Quality Food A friend visited me from overseas and on her first night we dined at the Berwyn Arms, The waiter was very friendly the meal and service was very good, However the second night we visited was totally different in the fact that I was told.that if I wanted to keep my bill open for a dessert I would have to leave my bank card in the till. I protested to this request, eventually refusing on security grounds. A cloud had already descended on our evening but we continued. On receiving our starter of Pate with toast we discovered the bread to have green mould on it I called the manager she was very apologetic and offered to renew but the night was already ruined. We paid for our wine and soft drinks to save our integrity and left. Their card policy as above cast a shadow on my honesty making me feel uncomfortable and spoilt the night from the start even without the incidence of the mouldy toast. Is this how to run a business ??? REALLY!!!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

We are a family of four with two young children, all looked good until We ordered our food, it looked appetising until I found a long brown hair in the sticky ribs, totally put me off eating the rest of my meal, the chef was very apologetic, the manager unfortunately was not! When I brought it to her attention she was Very rude and had no customer service skills she didn't even apologise!!! She practically made out we had planted the hair, she then walked off in a huff, and then proceeded to mouth off in front of the staff and other customers when I told her her customer service skills needed to be looked at. After working for a major airline for 20 years, if I had spoken to a passenger in the way she spoke to me I would of been hauled over the coals. we will never eat at this pub again, and would not recommend this to anybody.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Great food We visited on a busy evening Staff were friendly and welcoming. The specials menu is extensive and offers a good alternative choice to the main menu. The food was cooked well. Steaks were cooked to perfection. Portion size was incredible. Its nice to find somewhere that does quality and quantity. Kids meal was great. She ate every bite and still wanted more. We will be back in the future.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Nice find We ate here after coming across the place in the middle of a long road trip. The views from the restaurant were stunning. We both had roast beef dinners. Both were lovely and plentiful. Staff were very friendly.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Lunch with a view One of our favourite stops on the A5 for lunch. Enjoy the hot roast beef, onion and gravy baguettes with good chips. If the weather is good enjoy eating outside with the perfect view over the valley of the river Dee and the hills beyond, with the steam train passing below. Always friendly and helpful staff.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Staff need to learn some manners! I have actually visited this pub on four separate occasions as i live relatively local with mixed experiences. The first visit around two years ago the pub had been renovated and we were drawn in by the promise of a kids soft play area which was nothing to write home about but amused our 18 month old. I had lasagne which was extremely dry however my other half enjoyed her meal. I returned a second time with a group of friends not by my choice around a year ago. If I had been reviewing this visit the rating would be Exellent. Had a steak baguette which was tasty and Exellent Value for money had no complaints whatsoever. Ate here a third time several months ago and had the same steak baguette which was nowhere near as good as my previous visit. The guy waiting on bought my son's food out and spilt half his chips onto the table. He barely acknowledged that he had done this and didn't apologise. Finally we visited last weekend for food, walked into the restaurant and waited by the bar to order drinks and ask to be seated. The man behind the bar was busy however he didn't even aknowledge us carried on and disappeared for around five minutes at which point we decided to walk out and find somewhere else to spend our money. As we stood there there was I roast dinner on the bar and I heard the the man say to another staff member someone had walked out and refused to eat it. This tells me I'm not only person to be offended by the staff. Dont think I can will be eating here again. A appreciate the prices are reasonable so I do not expect the food to be incredible but the attitude of the staff needs to improve.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Friendly and welcoming! Lovely people, very friendly and welcoming to newcomers - we chatted to some locals and bonded over drinks and rugby! England nearly beat the All Blacks and Wales did well against (I think it was) South Africa. Good value overall, would recommend it to anyone. We didn't stay there, though.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Fabulous brekky and friendly service Stopped here, purely by chance, on the way home from a holiday in need of some breakfast. Fantastic freshly cooked breakfasts, 9 in total, smaller ones for the kids and all served in a friendly and hospitable manner. Great value for money and would definately recommend to anyone wanting a good place to stop for refreshments on route.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

A unexpected but great find We came across this pub during a relatively long car journey with our two year old. Couldn't have worked out better. Reasonably priced simple pub food in a beautiful old building. We used the kids soft play room which was free to enter and was great for letting the little one run round after being couped up in the car. Staff really friendly and service quick. Only slight negative was that the kids play room was perhaps not as clean as it could've been and some of the baby toys had seen better days. Overall this place was just what we needed!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Wow Called in at The Berwyn Arms for a couple of drinks on such a lovely day. Decided to have a meal in the restaurant too. Wow wee, the food was very much more ish, hot and delicious, and very reasonably priced too. The beer went down a treat too. The staff and atmosphere was what one needs. Special. A definite return visit is already on the cards. A must place to call by everyone.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

friendly people we stopped here on the way back from England,it was recommended by a local in Llangollen,we were disappointed, with the food,we ordered a roast dinner, when it came, there was a spoonful of mash!! the roast potatoes were rock hard, the beef to be fair was good,as were the other veg,the first seat we took had chips on the floor, tho the girl was quick to sweep them up,it was an ok sort of place, but not one i would go out of my way to stop at again.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Amazing place - you have to go there We skipped breakfast at our hotel and were driving through the countryside and came across The Berwyn Arms quite by accident - lucky us! We arrived at 11.45 - a bit early for lunch but we were hungry! Small welcoming bar and we were invited straight into the restaurant. The smell was awesome. There was a lovely menu with a great choice but we went for the Sunday lunch. You could have all three meats, Beef, Turkey or Lamb or just one of them. There was a small lunch which would be ideal for a child, we had the medium which you can see from the photo was quite big, we were told the large was great for someone who wanted a hearty lunch. As it was early we both had the medium but I think if we went again my husband would have the large. Not because the medium wasn't adequate but because the food was so delicious. The vegetables are all fresh and cooked to perfection, the stuffing was to die for. The view looks out over the countryside and a little steam train goes past. Two lunches, 1 tea, 1 coffee and 2 J2Os was £21.50 - bargain. The staff were attentive, asked us if everything was ok. They have installed a children's soft play area, we don't have any small children but would have appreciated it when ours were little, they can play where you can see them whilst you eat a delicious meal. I don't know what else I can say, it was wonderful and we're definitely going to stay there. It was all local produce and we can't wait to try breakfast!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Lovely Lunch Our first visit to the Berwyn Arms and were not disappointed. A warm and friendly atmosphere with a real fire plus an excellent lunch, locally sourced sausage with mash, a perfect steak ciabatta sandwich with peppercorn sauce and salad followed by a moreish caramel apple pie. From the table we had a beautiful view overlooking the river and mountainside and were served by friendly and helpful staff. A discovery and we will definitely be returning.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Great! As always! We've been here 3 times now. The food is great, portions massive. The staff are genuinely friendly and really helpful. Children are welcome and have a dedicated play area and room. Bouncy castle & great views in garden in summer! Will be coming again and recommend to all passing.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Nice evening meal We were on the way to a weekend away in North Wales, and stopped here for an early evening meal at around 6pm on a Friday. We were a little catious when we found we were the only people in the dining area, but it wasn't a problem. There was a good selection from the menu, and the meals we chose were well presented and tasty. Service was, as you would have expected given the lack of customers, prompt, and it was friendly. The price was fine as well, so all in all, a reasonable place to have a mealPosted on Tripadvisor![]()

Gluten Free in North Wales Stopped for a late dinner just after New Year - what a lovely welcoming pub and restaurant. A warm fire and good value, fresh food that is presented with obvious care. I'm a coeliac and the chef was outstanding - coming out to ask about my gluten free diet, offer multiple choices and then put together a special meal. Far better service and food for coeliacs (and anyone with a food allergy) than can be had in many International five star restaurants.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

An Independant pub / B&B that deserves your support Following a great meal & real ale in 2012 we said we will stay here one day. So we stayed 2 nights here in Sept 2013. The things that made a great stay for us:- Clean, comfortable room with excellent en suite with piping hot water. Two quality real ales on hand pumps, good pub food & genuine friendly staff. As mentioned in other reveiws, you will hear the noise in the bar below. (Remember you are staying in a pub not a Hotel) For us Thursday night was very quiet, but Friday a little noisy. I would say avoid Friday/Saturday stays, if the noise is going to be a problem. We will choose an independant trying to make ago in these tough times over a faceless corporate chain. Recommend rooms 1 & 2 for views over the Dee valley. . . . Yes we will stay again.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

good for a stopover Friendly staff, jovial atmosphere, clean rooms, very comfortable bed, good food, great breakfast and view from the dining room windows amazing!! Rooms are not well sound-proofed at all - could hear almost everything going on in pub downstairs til 11pm, and hear vacuum 7am next morning. Good place to stay with ear plugs.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Really lovely place ! We stopped here retuning to wrexham from corwen. We mainly stopped as it offered a childrens soft play area. We had passed the pub years ago when it was closed and always said it could be a lovely place if someone took it on. And we we right ! The lady behind the bar was lovely and showed us round - there is a small bar and lounge at the front - all very traditional with open fires. The main restaurant overlook the river and hills. There is a childrens/family in the back with a soft play area which was great - and cleverly it's done a corridor so the sound doesn't carry to the bar and restaurant (in case this would put anyone off who didn't have children). The menu in the day is nice are varied from sandwiches and jackets to full meals and steaks. We ordered at the bar and asked if we could eat in the restaurant - the staff were happy to come and get us when the food was ready. The food itself was gorgeous ! Large child's meal with beautiful homemade mash - a clean plate at the end was a sign of how nice it was. I had the sausage and mash - again the amazing fresh mash, 3 kinds of fresh veg and 6 (yes 6) sausages of various flavours in tasty onion gravy. My husband had the signature Berwyn baguette with chips which was tasty with loads of home cooked beef in the baguette. All the plates were cleared and there was no room for pudding ! We will be back ! This pub is great for families but the main areas are quiet with the lovely open fires as well.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Poor food stop We stopped here after coming off the boat. it was dinner time and this is where we drove by and thought we'd pop in as the location looked nice. We should have left when after my wife, who is a vegetarian ordered a chese sandwhich was told after 10 minutes- 'we dont have any chese! The young man who I believe was the cook then walked away and the bar man offered my wife a mushroom stroganoff. My filett steak (medium) had been started so we looked forward to both our meals. My wifes mushroom stroganoff arrived............. well; if boiled rice surrounded by tinned mushrooms is said dish, then I am Gordon Ramsey! My steak was well done and fairly tasteless and the group of flies that joined our table once the food arrived were never invited by us! We should have kept driving and eat elsewhere. We did not stay so thats why I have cliked average.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

almost always great first time here was fantastic, bar staff are lovely and efficient, food was awesome, play area very useful and the views are typically beautiful of north wales. if your lucky youll get to see one of the old steam trains passing through the valley in the distance. the menu choice is adequate and weve never had a problem finding something we like, the prices are also good for the quality and servings. the staff also brought out felt pens for the little ones and theres no shortage of high chairs thet are clean. as is the nice lawned area. my only gripe was on return visits the menu choice got less and less, last time we went there was nothing available that we wanted to eat! hope the chef sorts his stock orders out as we travel from wrexham to dine here and if the foods available its great. will return as its become our family favourite!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Good views whilst dining What else is there in favour of this establishment? Decent beer, yes. However, that can be found in many taverns. I tried the nine ounce beefburger on ciabatta and it was satisfactory, not outstanding; probably, a little too dry. If you want to visit Glyndyfyrdwy because of the Owen Glendower (Cooper Powys spelling version), this would be a good place to stop as the A5 through the village does not present many stopping points; you would need to patronise the Berwyn Arms, as well.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Consistently Excellent! My wife and I regularly spend our holidays in North Wales and have sampled many restaurants both good and bad over the years. However this restaurant is ALWAYS wonderful value... The staff are cheerful and helpful, the food is tasty and plentiful, the atmosphere is relaxing, and the views and surroundings are breathtaking. They are very flexible if you want something differently cooked or an alternative presentation, and visiting here is a real highlight of our trips to Wales. After several visits we cannot recommend this place HIGHLY enough... EXCELLENT!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

A little bit dissapointed Recently stopped here for a short break, bit of a mixed bag.....great room, really comfy bed, good staff, the evening meal was fantastic, the big let down was the breakfast having read reviews I was expecting great things, sadly the breakfast lacked any flavour cheap sausages and just had a really processed feel.Maybe I just got them on a bad day but it really let them down
Our kitchen team prepares the menu using fresh locally sourced seasonal ingredients.
The Berwyn Arms is very welcoming for all, and is a great family and dog friendly country pub.
Our bar focuses on the finest of drinks served in a comfortable sociable environment.
We have rooms with wonderful views over the River Dee and Llangollen Railway. Some of our rooms are also dog friendly!
